Viewing Pictures on Screen and Paper
When you look at a picture on your monitor you are seeing it in RGB (red.green.blue), this allows bright colours, strong oranges, irridescant greens etc.
When we print on paper we use CMYK (Cyan.Magenta.Yellow.Black), the images do not have the benefit of a light behind them so may appear flatter, certainly the CMYK colour space doesn't allows such bright colours (oranges and irridescant/fluro greens).
Most people don't notice the difference, but if you have the expectation of really strong colours and bright pictures you may be disappointed. Always ask for a simulated proof if you are unsure.
Setting Up Pdfs for printing
BEFORE SENDING DOCUMENTS PLEASE READ THIS GUIDE ON FILE SETUP REQUIREMENTS
All files must be supplied press ready and in PDF format. (Publisher/Word files can be accepted but will attract a $25 fee, please remember Publisher/Word page sizes default to US Letter, always ensure that the size for your page is set to A4, A5 or the size you want - see below).
All files to be supplied one-up with bleed (if applicable)
Images for large format printing can be supplied as JPEG or TIFF and need to be at least 150dpi at the size you wish them to be printed.
For A4 (210 x 297mm)brochures the page size should be set to 216x303mm to allow for a 3mm bleed (remember to ensure that important text and objects are 5mm away from the cut line/margin, that means when using the full size including the bleed, these items should be 8mm away from the edge of your full size page edge).
We can preflight your files for you and give a report on their suitability for a fee of $10 per page/side, this prevents problems occurring later on with your job.
WORD/PUBLISHER - set your page size to CUSTOM (under Page Layout in Word 2003) and then 96x61mm for business cards & 216x303mm for A4 jobs, remember to set your margins so that your text and important objects do not get any closer than 8mm from any edge. If you want to have a colour that bleeds off all sides then this must be set to the full page size.
ALL ORDERS MUST BE PRE-PAID.

BusinessBusiness Card size = 90mm x 55mm

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PREPARING FILES FOR EMBOSSING, FOILING AND/OR THERMO
All the above required PLUS within the same pdf file, a page showing only the area which is to be embossed, raised etc and this must be in rich/solid black
ie if you wanted a single sided card in colour with your logo embossed/raised/foiled:
You would have a 2 page pdf, the first page would have your pdf how you wish it to print
on the next page your logo would appear on it's own in exactly the same position as it appears on the first page which is to be printed. ALL other text/elements must have been removed from the 2nd page. The logo (or text, graphic etc) on the 2nd page must be in rich black (or 100% black).
If you are unclear on how to do this email sales@docuprint.com.au and ask for an example pdf file.
